🇾🇪⚔️🇸🇦 A loud blast was heard at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, with more than a dozen ambulances responding and travelers evacuated from parts of the facility, according to a Reuters eyewitness and people briefed on the matter.
Saudi government media and the civil aviation authority did not immediately comment. Flight tracking showed arrivals diverted or cancelled, and the airport told passengers to check status with airlines. Etihad and Qatar Airways cancelled multiple flights, some extending into Monday. Euronews, citing AFP, reported a diplomatic source saying the Houthis targeted the airport with a missile, and a medical source said five people were in intensive care. A witness described the blast around 3 p.m. local time.
This is a new incident, separate from the Thursday attacks already confirmed by the General Authority of Civil Aviation. Those killed three Saudi nationals, including Saudia Captain Hamoud Ali Alkalthami, and wounded others. One strike hit airport facilities; the second hit a Saudia aircraft on the ground with no passengers aboard. Operations resumed later that day. Interception debris also damaged a kindergarten and a clinic complex in the capital.
Claims that a missile specifically struck Terminal 3 today, that there were multiple fatalities in Saturday’s incident, or that Sanaa’s airport now requires HOCC permits for landings at King Khalid are not in the Reuters or AFP accounts and remain unverified. No formal Saudi statement on the Saturday blast has been issued yet.
